Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Ph. D

For those who may never have sought the help of a psychotherapist or who may feel uncertain, you may wonder: do I (or my child) really need the help of a professional? won't the `problem' go away with time or my child out-grow it? why isn't the advice of my best friend, PCP, pastor or priest or rabbi, or school social worker enough?

At the time you read this, you are the foremost expert on yourself or your child. And it is likely that you have already sought the opinions of friends, religious guides, your PCP and/or persons involved with your child's school. Yet the 'problem' persists.  That is your answer as to when a consultation with a specialist is needed.

When you consult a licensed psychotherapist, you enter a process, an interchange, a confidential conversation. You are a crucial participant in determining whether you feel comfortable talking to the therapist, whether it seems several sessions may be enough to help find and implement a 'solution' or whether a longer time--frame is likely because the 'problem' is complex and has existed some time. Every question you ask, every fear you reveal, every oddity of thought or feeling or dream that you share with your therapist is a contribution to the discovery of what holds the 'problem' in place and/or intensity.

Those are some of the 'you' components of therapy.

You have come to me because I have invested more than twenty years in trainings and experiences, beyond a license and one field, in order to develop the strongest knowledge base and in order to be a person of  attunement and breadth of exposures. I have been a pre-school teacher and a university professor; I have written and published in psychology and child development; I have helped develop and build an independent program in prisons before I returned to university myself for clinical training. Then I went on for psychoanalytic training for children and adolescents as well as for adults.

People in and around Old Saybrook, Essex, Chester, Deep River and Ivoryton have told me that there are few therapists well trained to work with children and adolescents as well as adults. I hope you will allow me to make a contribution to these communities by working with you and your families.
